Collection

I'm not someone who gets attached to objects. I tend to lose, forget, and wear out the things I own. But there are a few exceptions. On this page, the objects that matter to me, even if I put limited energy into acquiring them.

Pokémon Cards

I'm fully part of the Pokémon generation, but even though I watched the anime from time to time, I completely missed the . It wasn't until after lockdown that I got into it, as a way to bond with my son.

Since then, I've built a side project to organize my collection. Here are my favorites, ranging from 3€ to 800€.

Real Pokémon collectors would raise an eyebrow at this list. I can't help it, I find recent art rares way too beautiful.

Watches

I used to be all-in on Apple Watch, WHOOP band… wearables, basically. But after going through a rough patch where I needed to step back, I wanted to distance myself from anything that keeps me connected, and I started thinking about the timelessness of objects. I made a list of five watches I'd like to own, with the desire to pass them down to my children.

Breitling Navitimer

Breitling Navitimer watch

Very, very inspired by a Rolex Submariner. I wear it every day on a rubber strap.

The watch Cooper wears when he leaves on his mission in Interstellar. I'd like to pass it down to my son.

The watch Cooper leaves to his daughter in Interstellar. I'd like to pass it down to my daughter. It would feel like tying my children together, no matter where life takes them, no matter how far apart they end up.

While researching the Omega Speedmaster — the watch worn on every Apollo mission — I learned that Bulova had entered the same NASA bid and gifted a watch to David Scott. He brought it along on his mission, and when his Speedmaster failed, he wore it on the Moon during Apollo 15 — making it the second watch ever worn on the Moon, and the only personal watch to have ever been there.

The most expensive watch in this collection. The one I would have bought with my first paychecks as a pilot had I managed to land the job. Just as the Hamiltons would tie me to my children, the Navitimer would tie me to my father, who owns one.

I'm not saying I don't eye other watches. Omega Speedmaster Snoopy, Citizen, IWC or Bell & Ross watches for instance. But these five are the ones that make sense.
